Champawat is a town and a nagar panchayat in Champawat district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is the administrative headquarters of Champawat district. The district was named after Champawati, the daughter of King Arjun Deo and in 1997 Champawat was given the status of an independent district. The picturesque township with its origin traced back to the Chand dynasty of Kumaon, Champawat is entwined in legends. The fame of Kumaon natural beauty is known and Champawat is no exception. With rolling green hills and verdant forests, the rural beauty of the region lies in the hamlets dotting the hillsides with terraced farming.
