Nagaur is a city in the state of Rajasthan in India. It is the administrative headquarters of Nagaur District. The Nagaur city lies about midway betweenJodhpur and Bikaner. It was founded by the Naga Kshatriyas. It is also known as the village "Khatwan". Originally inhabited by the Naga Rajputs Nagaur changed many hands and was ruled by the Muslim rulers for several years. The town echoes with tales of valour of Amar Singh Rathore who died while fighting against the Mughals. Amar Singh was estranged from his own kingdom ofJodhpur and Nagaur remembers its adopted hero with much pride. Today Nagaur is famous for hosting one of the largest cattle fairs in Rajasthan where festivities and colour bring the otherwise sleepy town alive.
