Thirty minutes from the suburbs of Mumbai Madh is a quick retreat for a weekend holiday. It lies along the northwestern coast of Mumbai A tiny peninsula Madh Island is made up of many small villages inhabited primarily by fishermen and farmers and dotted with mangroves. The foremost is the Madh village with a majority Roman Catholic population of East Indian origin; and Erangal Village where a majority of farmers live. Madh became popular as a beach destination for its untouched sandy beaches and parties thrown by the rich of Mumbai. There is an old fort you could explore here known as the Madh Fort also known as Versova Fort. It is about 15kms from Malad and near the Aksa beach. Built by the Portuguese it served as an important watch tower.
