Chiplun is a city and a municipal council in Ratnagiri district in the state of Maharashtra India. Located on the Mumbai Goa highway in western India. An ancient town on the banks of the Vashishthi River Chiplun is one of the few towns that features on the tourism map of the Konkan region. It is an industrial town catering to mostly pharmaceutical and chemical industries. It is a major stop on the Konkan Railway. The name Chiplun means “The abode of Lord Parshurama”. As with most ancient towns Chiplun has its fair share of temples in honour of various deities.
