Agatti Island is a 7 km (4 1/2 mi) long island situated about 459 km (285 mi) of Kochi India. Its total land area is approximately 2.7 km² (1 sq mi). Its population as per the last census was 5667. It is surrounded on all sides by a coral reef. Agatti is a part of the Lakshadweep Islands which is the smallest union territory of India. Access by sea requires a 24 hour journey by ship; flight time from Kochi is 75 minutes. Agatti Aerodrome is the only airport in Lakshadweep. Indian Airlines and Kingfisher Airlines operate dailyATR72 flights from Kochi. You can enter the Island only if you have a confirmed place to stay. You are required to obtain Entry Permit from the Lakshadweep Administration for entering or visiting the island. Entry Permit is issued based on your confirmed place of stay. The small lagoon near the Agatti Island is the only place where fishing is allowed and in monsoon boats are not allowed into the sea. The coral reefs and the water surrounding it gives opportunity for scuba diving snorkelling boating para sailing gliding etc.
