Kalpetta is a municipality in Wayanad district in the state of Kerala. It is situated 72 km from Kozhikode and as the headquarters of the district it is the hub of commercial and tourist activities in the state. Kalpetta is known for its vast sprawling verdant hills covered with aromatic coffee and spice plantations and scattered waterfalls. The scenic town is situated on the edge of the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary and boasts of pleasant walkways and trekking tracks. The town used to be a stronghold of the Jains. As a result there are a number of ancient Jain temples in the town.
