Deogarh is a city and administrative headquarters of the Deogarh District. It comes amongst the 30 administrative districts of Orissa and is located in its western region. It lies 90 km east of Sambalpur Town and is the main artery of inter-regional trade and other links. National Highway 6 passes through the district. Deogarh is surrounded by Angul District in the south and east with Sambalpur and Sundargarh District on the west and north respectively. This district with an area of 2781 sq km has no industries and its main and only occupation is agriculture. The region is a hilly track and divided into four main mountain ranges namely the Khajuria Range Pradhanpat and Kaidanta range Pawri range and the Ushakothi range. eoghar is an ancient town famous for its group of 22 temples dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Numerous Buddhist ruins are also located nearby. There are 31 Jain Shrines in Deogarh. The place has been a site of Jain Shrines from the Gupta period until the 17th century.
