Founded by Vibhoji Ajoji Jadeja of the Jadeja clan in 1612 Rajkot was the capital of Saurashtra. Centrally located in the Kathiawar peninsula in Gujrat it is drained by the Aji River that flows through the district. An industrial and commercial town Rajkot is known for its manufacturing jewellery woollen and cotton textiles silk embroidery handicrafts and bandhni textiles. The large Race Course grounds in the heart of the city has Bal Bhavan Childrens Traffic Park Fun World and sports facilities and is a good place for family outings. The famed Tarnetar fair held annually to celebrate the legendary marriage of Arjuna and Draupadi attracts a lot of visitors.
