Ahmedabad is largest city in the state of Gujrat Located on the banks of the River Sabarmati the city is the administrative centre of Ahmedabad District . The city finds its beginnings as the capital of Sultan Ahmad Shah in 1411. In the British era it became an important military base and expanded and modernized to cater to the need of the new rulers who absorbed it into the Bombay Presidence. A rising centre of education information technology and scientific industries Ahmedabad remains the cultural and commercial heart of Gujarat and much of western India. Ahmedabad is old textile city is inextricably linked to Indias independence movement. It is from here that Mahatma Gandhi launched his famous Dandi March as a protest against the Salt Tax putting India on the path of non-violence.
