Machilipatnam is a fishing port town located on the Bay of Bengal in the southeastern part of the state. It is also known as Masulipatnam or Bandar city. Machilipatnam is known for its Kalamkari textiles and paintings which are created using vegetable dyes and for its carpet-weaving industry. It is a town with a rich history of foreign conquests business and trade starting with the early Arab traders then the French followed by the Dutch and the British.
