Kaushambi district is one of the districts of Uttar Pradesh state of India, and Manjhanpur town is the district headquarters. Kaushambi district is a part of Allahabad Division. Kaushambi is a newly created district out of Allahabad. It consists of major towns as Chail, Manjhanpur, Bharwari, Sirathu, Karari, Kara. It is pre-dominantly a Muslim dominated area. It has few excavated sites, an Asokan Pillar and a Jain temple 14 km. ahead of Sarai Akil. The soil is very fertile and it is the same place which is famous for Surkha guava of Allahabad that is famous all over the world. The Surkha region lies mainly in Allahabad. It is very easy to reach Kaushambi by road and is approximately 45 km from Allahabad. This site is good for history lovers who have interest in ancient history. Many artifacts from Kaushambi are placed in Allahabad Museum. This site also has a historic Asokan Pillar which was positioned there by Ashoka, The Great himself. It has inscriptions in Pali and surrounding the pillar is a historic site of ruins of Vatsa or Vamsa Empire and its University.
