Hampered (saal) by banyan trees (vad) is how Valsad got its name and has always been a place with banyan trees growing in abundance. Also known as Bulsar it is a municipality and an important milestone in the railway industry with its station built in 1925. The city houses many workshops that work on and maintain coaches and many trains originate from here. Valsad derives its economy from its crop of the famous Alphonso mangoes (known there as Haafus) Sapodilla Teak and its Castor-oil-extraction industry in Atul. It is famous for its handloom textiles dyes bricks and pottery as well. Valsad exports cotton and silk fabrics grain timber tiles and molasses.
